About The Event

Join us for the last concert of the year where the Northern Beaches Orchestra will present Prokofievs Peter and the Wolf. This character filled work is an excellent introduction to the orchestra. Prokofiev cleverly uses the instruments to depict characters in the story. The story tells us of a young boy playing in a meadow with his animal friends. Trouble ensues when they run into the wolf but by working together, Peter and his animal friends manage to capture the wolf and take him to the zoo, saving themselves and the wolf from the hunters. This spectacular work is sure to inspire your young ones to take up an instrument!

NBO will also be joined by the beautiful soprano Sarah Clark performing "Voices of Spring" by Johann Strauss. A stunning work to welcome in the warmer weather, the programatic lyrics describe the singing of a lark and a nightingale as the warm breeze awakens the fields and meadows. Sarah is sure to enchant you.

The concert is to conclude with the combined orchestras of NBO and the Northern Beaches Youth Orchestra presenting Mussorgsky's "The Great Gate of Kiev." Sit in awe as the strength of the orchestration speaks of a great golden gate. Let your imagination run wild as the concert ends in this epic conclusion.
